For the first time in history, a marriage equality bill has passed through a state legislature. The bill could reach Governor Schwarzenegger’s desk this week.
The Governor has indicated that he will veto this historic legislation.

Civilization was a game I played on a glowing box, a mark of my own nation’s scientific achievement. I find myself playing the same game on a similar box today, only this time I am not the leader. I am the citizen.

A friend emailed today and said she is taking a doctor, an acupuncturist, a couple of other people and a big truck (she’s also a massage therapist) and driving to Louisiana to help. She found some organizations that can use her and she is mobilizing. She asked for donations of items they could take with them and offered a list to start from with ideas. So many of those items were things I just “had in my house”, had EXTRA of, was hoarding for a time when they would be needed. (Even a COPY MACHINE, which was on the list and in my garage!)

I am going back to my natural state – where my brain ends inside of me. I won’t be able to reach out into cyberspace and grab factoids and figures and I won’t be able to check statistics or online news. I will only be able to reach the natural world around me and then of course inward – into the abyss that grows less lit yet more sacred the deeper one reaches.

For years it’s looked like “W” and his henchmen played every card right as if all things were planned on their behalf!

I’m sharing a recent column by Molly Ivins, who offers a broader analysis of the recent and continuing disasters precipitated by Hurrican Katrina. May we all contribute in some way to the changes that must follow this devastating event.

In what appears to be a rapid, horrific spiral into the surreal, U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu (D-La.) Has Exposed the rebuilding of the 17th Street levee to be a staged Photo Op for President Bush.

Our hearts and prayers go out to those affected by Katrina. We wish them Godspeed to safety and eventual recovery.

Hey, Biniyam, whazzup? Are you still playing Jimi Hendrix´ stuff in dorm´s hall? You know, these were, probably, the best minutes in my life when you put meter-large loudspeakers into the hallway, switched your guitar on and palyed.

People, good decent people, will be forced to cross some lines. Some to protect themselves will use weapons against the aggressors that are on the edge of that bell curve, some out of need for food or water will loot places, some out of misery will push and shove. We must respect their struggle to maintain the connection to the law in their heart in some of the worst times of their lives.

I’m sure I’m not the only one watching this horrible disaster unfold. What we are seeing is unprecedented in modern American history. Help me restore my faith in humanity.
