In Response to Probability Drive

So I am going to align myself with Danny Boy and with Manual De Landa. Manual De Landa wrote an interesting book called A Thousand Years of Nonlinear History. This is a work of philosophy by way of nonlinear historical examination and amongst other ideas, De Landa puts forward the notion that humans move rocks around. Stretching back past the pyramids and forward to silicon chip sets we, as a species move natural materials around.

OK and a little more radical and only slightly less fanciful than our friend Mr Adams and his probability drive, let me point then to Mr Terence McKenna. McKenna, the radical philosopher and psychotropic loving shaman suggested that (moving rocks around as we tend to do) we are the devise with which the earth is ramifying its central nervous system (i.e. the networks we build both electronic as well as roadways, etc.). That people are a tool used by the earth for the earth and driving towards some future where the earth and humankind are more closely linked than ever before in a conscious and articulated symphony where the earth expresses itself in a new state.

Now whether this is true or no, it points at something I have long felt to be true. That we are a part of what is evolved and created as well as a part of what evolves and creates. Danny Boy’s ideas of mind and its power in reality take note of what quantum physics is tangling with right now. But staying out of the world of physics and the world of psychotropic enhanced shaman, lets look to something even simpler.

To convey ideas a few thousand years ago, I had to literally be standing within ear shot of who I wanted to communicate with. That was the physical reality, and if the thought came into my head that I needed to tell Bob something – well I had better hope Bob was close by otherwise I would be in for some exercise. Tonight, using a written language, I will tap on some plastic (we move a lot of rocks to get at the petroleum that makes plastic) key and the click a few times with my little plastic mouse (it has lots of silicon and plastic in it) which will send electrical pulses along wires (from extracted metals) into a computer (even more petroleum, silicon and metals) out into a network of more of the same. I will do this will barely more effort than it takes to think of the words. Simultaneously I can convey my ideas to people all over the world. And I can do so while sleeping, working, eating, working out.

All of this is possible through the power of thought. Our collective thought over the last several thousand years has changed the reality of how we change reality. Get me? Like the bumper crop in population we have a bumper crop of the ability to create and to discover and to alter reality. I wont ramble too much about how many folks wiser than I are very frightened about this. This is because, although a great many people seem to be able to leverage the invention, creations and discoveries of others to continue to move rocks around (often quite violently or without consideration), we seem less able to inherit the wisdom to deal with such powerful connection between thought and reality.

This points even more frantically towards what Danny Boy is bringing up – it is not only a good idea to think about peace – it is an imperative. If we are to live in harmony with our calling to move rocks around as part of the evolving creation then we must also embrace the responsibility that comes with playing the part. There is going to be an ever closer tie between our well being as a species and the well being of each person’s thoughts.

A drill, a gun, a saw, a scalpel, a machine, a bomb a hand or book – thoughts use these tools we have created to extend our thoughts and ideas to now more directly apply the thought as close to its beginning in time and expression. Take heed of your own powerful thoughts and know you are armed and dangerous – know that you are part of creation. There is no escape from this responsibility – only negligence. Or as my favorite thought up creature Yoda says – There is no TRY – there is only DO or DO NOT.

Jolly Good Andrei, Jolly Good! This Blogging thing is becoming more and more fun. It feels good to be so involved in all this evolving.

i concur -

resolve to evolve is a fine thing. now let’s start roping more folks into our discussions, eh. I wonder if we might get mister eD involved in keeping us honest?

Great article. Parts of this reminded me of Gaia Theory.
