Howdy. I am The Filmnerd. I have always had a voracious appetite for the cinematic arts, and one of the ways that I like to process my various film experiences is to write about them.

The films that I screen and review for Driving Socrates will not fit any particular pattern, except that I will probably not write about movies that would be difficult for a reader to get access to. My reviews are intended to encourage people to seek out and watch the films themselves. When appropriate I will include links to the IMDB (Internet Movie Database) and/or Netflix. When I decide to ‘rate’ a film my system is patterned after the standard American academic model: A=Great | B=Good | C=Fair | D=Not-So-Much | F=Absolute Shite

Some of the films I review will be first run, but for the most part I will be talking about films on DVD. There will be a broad mix of contemporary as well as ‘classic’ cinema, and I will always try to access quality films from different cultures. I probably have more respect for Hollywood than most progressive film watchers, but I especially appreciate films that are able to escape the trappings of the more industrialized factions of the film business. I tend to like diversity when I plan my viewing experiences, so the same week that I offer my commentary on The Bicycle Thief I might also review Legally Blonde. I think that there is a place for intellectualism in cinema, but I also appreciate films that are just entertainment.

I hope that my comments will encourage the filmnerd in all of you!
